Economic Growth
Modern, centralized wastewater management is fundamental to attracting new investments, enabling expansion of existing businesses, and supporting planned developments like 47 Commons. This initiative is expected to support projects with a total investment projected to reach $200 million over a 10-year build-out.
Environmental Protection
Transitioning properties from septic systems to a regional sewer system helps protect local groundwater and natural ecosystems, like Spring Creek. This shift is essential for safeguarding public health and improving the long-term water quality of the region.

The RSD is a framework designed to prioritize projects that meet the county's needs for the next 50 years, ensuring regional utility control.
“47 Commons Centralized” is the most fiscally responsible and operationally ready solution for Boone County. It provides for the construction of a new 0.25 Million Gallons per Day (MPD) treatment plant at 47 Commons, and includes a force main to service across I-65 and gravity sewer to serve 47 Commons. The estimated cost (including soft costs and contingencies) is $16.8 million.

It is important to clarify that this Boone County Regional Sewer District initiative is entirely separate from the current LEAP project. This focused effort is strategically designed to spur immediate economic development at the 47 Commons area and deliver substantial long-term benefits to public health and community wellbeing.
